2008 Campaign in a Nutshell: If It Sounds Good, Just Say It (Facts Schmacks)
by Gerald Prante
As Homer Simpson would say, "Facts Schmacks." That's also the view of Joe Biden who yesterday said this in an interview with Katie Couric (video here at around 1:40 mark):
"Part of what a leader does to instill confidence is demonstrate that he/she knows what they're talking about and communicates to people 'if you listen to me and follow what I'm suggesting, we can fix this.'
When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'look, here's what happened.'"
Well. In 1929 (the year of the stock market crash), televisions were not in homes yet. And in 1929, Hoover was president. But hey, it sounded good, so why not say it?
