A national study shows Louisiana residents are under a heavy burden from state and local taxes compared to other states, but the amount of federal income taxes is relatively light because incomes are below-average nationally.
The Tax Foundation says the tax burden in Louisiana when compared to median income is 11th highest in the nation.
The state ranks 49th in federal taxes, with only Mississippi residents having a lower tax burden.
