Burlington Free Press Highlights Census Data on Residential Property Taxes
"4 Vermont Counties in Top 100 of Tax Bills"
By Dan McLean
Chittenden County and three other Vermont counties made the list of the 100 U.S. counties with the highest median property tax bills, according to a Tax Foundation study of U.S. Census data.
The median Chittenden County property tax bill—$3,809—ranked as the 61th highest property bill in the country, according to the study, which analyzed a three-year period ending with 2007. Median means half paid more and half paid less. Windham, Addison, and Windsor counties were also in the top 100.
