Contra Costa Times -- 'Read their lips: Taxpayers are willing to pony up more'

"'Contrary to the public perception that the rich are getting away with it, in fact they are not,'" said Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation, a non-partisan group. "'The rich continue to pay a larger and larger share of the tax burden.'
"What's more, the top 50 percent of taxpayers account for 96.5 percent of the federal income tax collections. Potentially, that means many lower or even middle income people pay nothing.
"'People can always donate more of their money to government as long as they don't force me to pay higher taxes,' Hodge said."
