The Missoulian -- 'Tax misery doesn't have as much company'

"A recent poll commissioned by the Tax Foundation in advance of tomorrow's deadline for filing federal tax returns shows 55 percent of Americans think their taxes are too high. At least some of them probably have something to complain about. Many people have absolutely nothing to complain about.

"One in three "taxpayers" actually pay no federal income tax. Some 44 million Americans who file tax returns owe nothing once they take their deductions and credits. Another 14 million households legally are excused from filing tax returns - they earn too little money.

"According to an analysis by the Washington-based Tax Foundation, businesses account for 20 percent of "taxpayers" paying no taxes. Farmers, sole proprietorships, limited shareholder corporations, real estate businesses and partnerships are well represented among the income-tax-free."
