Alicia Hansen is the staff writer, webmaster, and copy editor at the Tax Foundation. She has been with the Tax Foundation since 1999. She has written articles for Tax Features, numerous op-eds and commentaries, and two extensive studies of state-run lotteries and their tax policy implications. She also oversees and contributes to the Foundation's popular Tax Policy Blog. Her work has appeared in major newspapers, including the Charlotte Observer, Crain's Chicago Business, and the Providence Journal. Her articles and commentaries have also appeared in State Tax Notes and the publications of several other nonprofit organizations. She has conducted many radio interviews on the subject of state-run lotteries and has testified before the Vermont legislature.
Previously, Ms. Hansen was enrolled in a doctoral program in philosophy at the University of Maryland, worked in the membership department of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, performed volunteer work on a congressional re-election campaign in her home state of Connecticut, and worked as a self-employed tutor of math, reading, and French. She graduated summa cum laude from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a bachelor's degree in philosophy.
